About Jim Hosking

Jim Hosking is a writer and director whose films combine an absurdist sensibility with carefully composed visual storytelling. His work often explores themes of failed masculinity, troubled romance, forays into fantasy and existential longing through impassioned performances constructed in parallel universes. But fear not, he is heading more and more into a recognisable reality!

After his short film Renegades screened in the Shorts programme at the Sundance Film Festival, his debut feature, The Greasy Strangler, premiered in the festival’s Midnight section. It received the Discovery Award at the British Independent Film Awards and the Empire Award for Best Comedy, was released in the UK by Picturehouse, and has since developed an irrepressible cult following.

His second feature, An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn, premiered in the NEXT section of the Sundance Film Festival. The film, starring Aubrey Plaza, Jemaine Clement, Emile Hirsch, Craig Robinson and Matt Berry, was released in the US by Universal Pictures and in the UK by Picturehouse.

Hosking co-created and directed the series Tropical Cop Tales, which premiered in the Indie Episodic section of the Sundance Film Festival before airing on Adult Swim.

His most recent feature, Ebony & Ivory, a revisionist biopic featuring Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder trapped in a Scottish cottage on the Mull of Kintyre, premiered at Fantastic Fest.

For completeness, we should also point out that Jim started directing at MTV in New York and then began making lots of commercials with people of all heights and sizes in all the continents we have heard of.
